A tent of height 8 m is in the form of a right circular . . .

Question : A tent of height 8 m is in the form of a right circular cylinder of diameter 7 m and height 5 m surmounted by a right circular cone. Find the cost of canvas used at the rate of ₹ 5 per m².

Solution :
The tent has two parts cylinder at the bottom and cone at the top.

Total Height of the tent = 8 m

Dimensions of the cylinder
H= 5 m
Radius of the cylinder
r=d/2
r=7/2 m

Dimensions of the conical part
Radius (r) = 7/2 m = 3.5 m
Height the cylinder (h)
= 8-5
= 3 m
Slant height of the cone (l)
l=√[r²+h²]
l=√[(3.5)²+(3)²]
l=√[12.25+9]
l=√[21.25]
l= 4.609
l=4.61 m

Now
Area of canvas
= CAS of Cone + CSA of Cylinder
= πrl+2πrH
= πr(l+2H)
= (22/7)(7/2)×[4.61+2(5)]
= 11×[4.61+10]
= 11×[14.61]
= 160.71 m²

Cost of 1m² canvas =  5
Cost of 160.71 m² =  (5×160.71)
= ₹ 803.55
