Question : Case Study Based Question (CSBQ)

Due to on going Corona Virus outbreak Raj Medical store has started selling masks of descent quality. The store is selling two types of Masks Currently Type 'A' & Type 'B'. The Cost of one Type 'A' Mask is Rs. 15 and of One Type 'B' Mask is Rs. 20. In the Month of April, 2020 the store sold 100 Masks for Total Sales of Rs. 1650. Due to great demand and short supply , the store has increased the price of each type by Rs 5 from May 1,2020. In the Month of May, 2020 the store Sold 310 Masks for Total Sales of Rs 6875. On the basis of the above information, Answer any four of the following questions:-

i.) How many masks of each type were sold in the month of April?

(a) 40 Masks of type 'A' & 80 Masks of type 'B'.
(b) 60 Masks of type 'A' & 40 Masks of type 'B'.(c) 70 Masks of type 'A' & 30 Masks of type 'B'.(d) 30 Marks of type 'A' & 70 marks of type 'B'

ii.) If the store had sold 50 Masks of each type. What would be its sale in the Month of April?

(a) Rs 550
(b) Rs 560
(c) Rs 1050
(d) Rs 1750

iii.) How many masks of each type were sold in the Month of May?

(a) 175 Masks of type 'A' & 135 Masks of type 'B'.
(b) 200 Masks of type 'A' & 110 Masks of type 'B'.
(c) 110 Masks of type 'A' & 200 Masks of type 'B'.
(d) 135 Masks of type 'A' & 175 Masks of type 'B'.

iv) What percent of Masks of each type sale was increased in the Month of May, compared with the sale of with the sale of Month April?

(a) 110% in type 'A' & 180% in type 'B'.
(b) 180% in type 'A' & 110% in type 'B'.
(c) 350% in type 'A' & 150% in type 'B'.
(d) 150% in type 'A' & 350% in type 'B'.

v) What extra profit did he earned by increasing Price in May Month?

(a) Rs 1550
(b) Rs 3100
(c) Rs 1650
(d) Rs 1825

Doubt by Gurjot.

Solution :

i) In April 2020

Let the number of Type A mask sold = x

and the number of Type B mask sold = y

ATQ

x+y=100 — (1)

15x+20y=1650

5(3x+4y)=1650

3x+4y=1650/5

3x+4y=330 — (2)

Solving equation (1) and (2) by Elimination Method

(x+y=100)×3

3x+4y=330

3x+3y=300

3x+4y=330

- -   -

----------

0 - y = -30

----------

-y=-30

y=30

putting in equation (1)

x+y=100

x+30=100

x=100-30

x=70

Hence,

No. of Type A Mask sold = x = 70

No. of Type B Mask sold = y = 30

So, the correct option is (c) 70 Masks of type 'A' & 30 Masks of type 'B'.

ii) Cost of 1 Mask of Type A = Rs 15
Cost of 50 Mask of Type A

= Rs (15×50)
= Rs 750

Cost of 1 Mask of Type B = Rs 20
Cost of 50 Mask of Type B

= Rs (20×50)
= Rs 1000

Total Sale in the month of April 2020

= Rs (750+1000)

= Rs 1750

Hence, the correct option would be d) Rs 1750

iii) In May 2020

Let the number of Type A mask sold = x

and the number of Type B mask sold = y

ATQ

x+y=310 — (1)

20x+25y=6875

5(4x+5y)=6875

4x+5y=6875/5

4x+5y=1372 — (2)

Solving equation (1) and (2) by Elimination Method

(x+y=310)×4

4x+5y=1375

4x+4y=1240

4x+5y=1375

- -   -

----------

0 - y = -135

----------

-y=-135

y=135

putting in equation (1)

x+y=310

x+135=310

x= 310-135

x= 175

Hence,

No. of Type A Mask sold = x = 175

No. of Type B Mask sold = y = 135

So, the correct option is (a) 175 Masks of type 'A' & 135 Masks of type 'B'

iv) Percentage increase of Type A Mask

= (Final - Initial)/ Initial

= [(175-70)/70]×100
=[105/70]×100
= 10500/70
= 1050/7
= 150 %

Percentage increase of Type B Mask

= (Final - Initial)/ Initial

= [(135-30)/30]×100
=[105/30]×100
= 10500/30
= 1050/3
= 350 %

So, the correct option is d) 150% in type 'A' & 350% in type 'B'.

v) Extra Profit Earned in May by Increasing the Price
In May

No. of Type A Mask sold =  175

No. of Type B Mask sold = 135

Total Sales in May at old Price
= (175×15)+(135×20)
= 2625 + 2700
= Rs 5325

Total Sales in May at New Price
= (175×20)+(135×25)
= 3500 + 3375
= Rs 6875

Total Profit Earned = 6875-5325
= Rs 1550

So, the correct option is a) Rs 1550
